About this tool
Turn white, solid-color or checkerboard backgrounds into real transparency. It works best on images with a single-color background, such as logos, icons and screenshots. A checkerboard pattern only imitates transparency — the squares are actually painted in — and this tool turns it into true transparency too.
It does not use AI to recognize the subject. Instead, it treats the color at the image edges as the background and removes only the areas connected to it. That makes the result fast and predictable, but it cannot cut a person out of a photo with a busy background.
How to use
- Drag images onto the page or click to choose them. You can add several at once.
- Under “Background type”, choose “Solid” (white included) or “Checkerboard”.
- If some background remains, raise the “Tolerance”; if parts of the subject disappear, lower it.
- Click “Convert all” and download in the format you picked: PNG, WebP or AVIF.
Frequently asked questions
Will white areas inside the subject be removed too?
No. Only background connected to the image edges is removed, so the same color inside the subject, separated from the background, stays.
Why can't I save as JPEG?
The JPEG format cannot store transparency, so the areas you made transparent would be filled with color again. That is why only PNG, WebP and AVIF, which support transparency, are offered.
What does tolerance do?
It sets how close a color must be to the background color to count as background. Raising it also removes backgrounds with shadows or compression artifacts; raising it too far removes parts of the subject that look similar. Edges are softened so they do not look jagged.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. All processing happens inside the browser you are using right now. Your files are never sent anywhere, so no copy of your photos or documents is left on someone else's server.
